In a world where commercial country singers are a dime a dozen, and everyone singing on Tik Tok is worthy of a record deal. Very few have raw, real authentic talent. #4: Whiskey Myers
Whiskey Myers is a Red Dirt Country group from Palestine, Texas. They released breakout music video “Anna Marie” in 2012 and began a slow rise to fame. Finally entering US Country Charts in 2019 for their single “Gasoline” Whiskey Myers is becoming one of Red Dirt Country’s favorite bands. They share the same producer and engineer as Jason Isbell and Chris Stapelton.
#3 Randy Rogers Band
When the King Of Country Music, Mr. George Strait needed an opening band for his “Cowboy Rides Away” tour, Randy Rogers Band picked up the call. Along with Vince Gill they packed areas in Texas to give the superstar and sold out retirement party. Known for their songs “Kiss Me In The Dark” “One More Goodbye” and “Steal You Away” Randy Rogers band is everything that encompasses Red Dirt Country, Eli Young Band probably took some notes from this band as their sound is pretty similar.
#2: Turnpike Troubadours
Your kidding right? They aren’t even from Texas, don’t you have to be from Texas to be considered Red Dirt Country? Well I guess not because Red Dirt Radio plays the heck out of the Turnpike Troubadours and for good reason. Fans line up to hear favorites like “Long Hot Summer Day” and “Good Lord Lorrie” they did a pretty impressive show at Red Rocks to boot. When it comes to good country songs these guys have it in spades.
#1: Doug Sahm
Should I add a classic country singer in here as well? With a voice similar to Ray Charles, Doug Sahm is one of the pioneers of Red Dirt Country Music. His song “Texas Me” was played at Texas Honky Tonks all over the south. He was born in San Antonio and learned to play the steel guitar at age six. Many considered him a child prodigy. He was awarded the presidents award by the Americana Music Association and was an original member of The Texas Tornados.
